The park’s namesake, Debbie Lightsey, a former Tallahassee City Commissioner and environmental advocate.

Opened to the public on October 18, 2023, Debbie Lightsey Nature Park and Golden Aster Trail is the newest addition to Tallahassee's nationally-recognized assortment of parks, green space and nature trails. It is located in Southwest Tallahassee on Capital Circle SW, along the Bradford Chain of Lakes.

The Park is filled with beautiful vegetation and wildlife species that can be spotted year-round, such as Great Blue Herons, Great White Egrets, Snowy Egrets, Wood Storks, Ospreys, Anhingas, monarch butterflies, buttonbush and cypress, red maple and black gum trees.

The park is accessible by car and is connected to a multi-use, asphalt pathway that runs along Capital Circle.
