Banding and Identifying Winter Sparrows with Jim Cox at Tall Timbers Research Station

*This field trip is limited to 12 participants and it is requested that they are fully vaccinated. Please email levy.heather789@gmail.com to reserve a space*

Join ornithologist Jim Cox, a regional expert on bird ecology at Tall Timbers Research Station and Land Conservancy. Tall Timbers is internationally recognized research station with over 60 years of experience studying fire-adapted ecosystems, organisms inhabiting these systems, and advocating for prescribed fire use. We will be towed in a wagon around the property and stop at different sites to identify and band wintering sparrows. We will learn about the role of prescribed fire in the pinelands, the importance of bird banding for research and conservation, and the ecology of different wintering birds. Please bring binoculars, water, snacks, and a camera if you’d like. If you would like to borrow binoculars, please let us know in advance and we can provide loaners.
