This presentation will give an overview of Florida Scrub-Jay ecology, habitat needs, and current population trends, along with key threats and the role of fire. It will also introduce Audubon’s Jay Watch program, share updates from scrub-jay sites around the state, and explain how people can get involved in protecting this iconic Florida bird.


Audrey DeRose-Wilson

Audrey earned a M.S. in Fish and Wildlife Conservation from Virginia Tech and a B.S. in Zoology from Michigan State. Prior to her work for Audubon Florida, Audrey served as the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s (FWC) Florida Shorebird Program lead and prior to FWD, she worked as a Shorebird Biologist and Avian Program Manager for the Delaware Division of Fish and Wildlife where she managed the volunteer-based Delaware Shorebird Project that entailed capture, banding, data collection and analysis of migratory shorebirds, including federally threatened Red Knots. Currently, as Audubon Florida's Director of Bird Conservation, Audrey focuses her efforts on bird conservation and policy, including overseeing Audubon’s coastal bird and Florida Scrub-Jay conservation partnerships with agencies and other organizations.
